Eight U.S. crews reached the finals at the World Rowing Championships on the Danube River in Vienna, and Germany qualified 12. American men clinched berths in the lightweight single and quadruple sculls, heavyweight double and quadruple sculls and lightweight coxless fours. U.S. women qualified in the eights, lightweight single and double sculls. . . . The United States ended the first round of the under-17 world soccer championships in Viareggio, Italy, with a 3-1 victory over China. The United States (3-0) will face Qatar in Sunday’s quarterfinals.
