The Good, the Bad and the Ego

It is not ego that produces bad pictures, though it’s nice that you’ve noticed the epidemic of dull movies (“The High Price of Ego in Hollywood,” by Nina J. Easton, Aug. 11). In the entire history of Hollywood there had never been a year lacking in genius until this past decade.

My generation (born after 1950) has simply failed to come through the snake pit of American society with any art whatsoever, and we all bear the consequences.

It is a shame, but it’s time for this city, which honors its artists not with a Louvre but by walking on their names under the Hollywood sign, to grow up.
