Fire Burns 60 Acres of Brush in East County
An arson fire that burned 60 acres of remote East County brush was contained early Saturday, California Department of Forestry officials said.
Firefighters expected to extinguish the blaze late today, CDF officials said. It was set about 1 p.m. Friday near Wildcat Canyon Road, northeast of Lakeside, officials said. No arrests have been made.
Six firefighters reported minor injuries while surrounding the blaze, officials said. Several buildings were threatened but none damaged, officials said.
Meanwhile, another brush fire Saturday in rural North County burned 15 acres of scrub, CDF officials said. The blaze, off Schoolhouse Canyon Road near California 79 southeast of Lake Henshaw, erupted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and was contained 90 minutes later, officials said.
The cause of the fire is uncertain, officials said. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries putting it out, officials said.
