Rod Gould, assistant city manager of Walnut Creek, was appointed city manager of Monrovia on Monday.

The selection of Gould, 34, who will assume his duties Oct. 1, ends a three-month search for a replacement for Jim Starbird, who left in May. Monrovia Mayor Bob Bartlett said Gould was the best qualified of 74 applicants.

“He has excelled in everything we asked him to work on here,” said Walnut Creek City Manager Don Blubaugh. “He’s ready to be a city manager. . . . Monrovia is getting an outstanding person.”
