Robert Smith, who criticized the coaching staff when he quit the Ohio State football team last week, met with athletic director Jim Jones and school president Gordon Gee Monday morning in what could be the first step toward rejoining the team.

Smith, who broke Archie Griffin’s school record for freshman rushing yardage last year, quit the team Friday and called for the dismissal of Coach John Cooper and offensive coordinator Elliot Uzelac.
