Hypocrisy of Speech Codes

In response to “The Furious Are Deep in a Conspiracy Rut; The PC Lambs Are Silent: That a black professor’s anti-Semitic words go unchallenged shows the hypocrisy of speech codes,” by Alan Dershowitz and Clarence Page, Commentary, Aug. 16:

Alan Dershowitz, whether he meant to or not, is playing right into the hands of professor Leonard Jeffries Jr. A man with the stature of Dershowitz giving prominence and recognition to a man like Jeffries is furthering the credence of someone who doesn’t deserve it. Of course Jeffries has every right to say his piece and certainly anyone who chooses to listen may do so, as well. But Dershowitz, by writing this column, has mistakenly given Jeffries a much larger forum in which to air his views.

If Dershowitz really wants to discredit the unjust and accusatory statements of Jeffries, he should ask for equal time at City College of New York and speak to those who heard Jeffries’ message.
