Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Barry Sentencing Appeal Rebuffed

A federal appeals court affirmed its earlier ruling that former Washington Mayor Marion Barry’s sentence for cocaine possession may be lengthened because of an allegation that he lied to a grand jury. In July, the court ordered Barry resentenced on grounds that a U.S. District Court did not follow guidelines when it ordered a six-month prison term. But it rejected arguments by Barry’s lawyer that the sentence could not be lengthened.
