Jim White made the fastest funny-car run in National Hot Rod Assn. history, 288.27 m.p.h., in beating John Force to win the Big Bud Shootout, a special event conducted at the U.S. Nationals drag race at Indianapolis. The run will not count as the NHRA record, however, because it occurred in the Shootout, a special event.
