OUTLOOK This will be the team to watch. The Braves are experienced, big and have a great running back in Ayers. Last season, he gained more than 1,200 yards in only seven games and tore through Mater Dei, one of the top defensive teams, for 149 yards, including an 88-yard touchdown run. The offensive line averages 232 pounds, which gives Ayers plenty of size to run behind. Hamilton is inexperienced at quarterback but performed well during the summer. With opponents concentrating on Ayers, he will have less pressure. Three of four defensive backs return as do two defensive linemen and a linebacker, giving the Braves a good nucleus. “We have voids to fill,” Soumakian said, “but we have more depth this season.”
