IBM-Led Consortium Wins British Helicopter Contract: The British government awarded a $2.5-billion military helicopter contract to a consortium led by IBM Corp. Defense Secretary Tom King said IBM and Westland Helicopters of Britain offered the best deal to produce 44 anti-submarine helicopters for Britain’s Royal Navy. The helicopter, known as the Merlin, is based on the EH101 helicopter produced jointly by Britain and Italy.
