Philips to License Digital Tape Technology: Dutch electronics maker N. V. Philips has signed preliminary agreements to license its next-generation digital tape technology to four other electronics makers. The four are Sharp, Sanyo and Yamaha of Japan and Tandy Corp. of the United States, owner of the Radio Shack chain. The technology, called Digital Compact Cassette, provides the same distortion-free digital sound of compact discs but also allows users to record music.
