Cheese With Glass Slivers Removed From Shelves
A woman found slivers of glass in a package of cheese, prompting a supermarket in Long Beach to pull the product off its shelves, authorities said Tuesday.
Sherron Kendrick, 41, of Long Beach, bought the 16-slice package of Borden’s American Cheese Thin Slices at the Lucky market at 6000 Atlantic Blvd. about 10:15 p.m. Monday, Sheriff’s Deputy John Ashley said. “She then went home and made a liverwurst and cheese sandwich. While she was eating the sandwich, she felt a pain in her throat.”
Kendrick told authorities that she found several “small shavings resembling glass” in the cheese, Ashley said. Sheriff’s deputies checked several of the cheese slices and found the same type of slivers. Kendrick was treated at Memorial Medical Center of Long Beach and released.
The Lucky market removed the cheese after receiving notice of the incident.
