COSTA MESA : College Re-Entry Center Wins Grants
The Re-Entry Center at Orange Coast College has received two federal grants totaling $69,000 to further its work in helping people return to college.
The center assists students in making career changes or acquiring new job skills, and also gives training and advice to single parents or displaced homemakers.
A grant of $53,894 will be used in part to add child care and a daytime class called “New Horizons” for adults returning to school, center director Nicolette Jackson said.
“This will also allow us to set up a scholarship fund to help people just starting out,” Jackson added.
The center will also be able to offer more career-planning workshops and day and evening support groups, she said.
The second grant, at $15,000, will help the center design programs to encourage people to overcome sex bias and stereotyping in vocational programs.
