Bomb Fragments Found at School
LOS ALAMITOS — Police on Tuesday morning found the remains of a pipe bomb that exploded over the weekend at McAuliffe Middle School and the remnants of a second bomb that fizzled.
An employee of the school found the remains of the fizzled bomb at 7 a.m., Police Sgt. Terry McCarthy said.
“It was a poorly made device, a dud,” McCarthy said. “It didn’t fully explode.”
Police then found the second bomb, which did explode but caused no damage, McCarthy said. Both bombs were found in an open courtyard area of the school at 4112 Cerritos Ave.
No injuries were reported at the school, which will begin its term Thursday.
Police are investigating.
