Two Area Players Lose at U.S. Open
Lindsay Davenport of Palos Verdes and Nicole London of Rolling Hills Estates lost second-round junior singles matches and also were eliminated from doubles competition at the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York on Wednesday.
Davenport, seeded 16th in singles, lost to Julie Steven of Wichita, Kan., 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, and London fell to 11th-seeded Maja Muric of Yugoslavia, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
The top-seeded team of Kristin Godridge and Nicole Pratt of Australia defeated Davenport and London in a doubles match later Wednesday, 6-3, 6-3.
