Jo Brooks Fox; Retired Publicist
Jo Brooks Fox, a retired publicist and advertising writer who is credited with creating the 7-Up slogan “You like it, it likes you,” has died at her North Hollywood home. She was 76.
A longtime North Hollywood resident, Mrs. Fox died Wednesday of cancer, said her husband, Jules Fox.
Born in Houston, Tex., she wrote commercials and programs for KHQ radio station in Spokane, Wash., and later worked as a reporter for the Spokane Chronicle News.
After moving to the Los Angeles area, she worked as a radio commercial writer for various companies, including Wonder Bread and 7-Up.
Mrs. Fox and her husband worked as a publicity team for several well-known entertainers, including Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, George Shearing and Lionel Hampton.
She retired in the mid-1980s.
In addition to her husband of 49 years, Mrs. Fox is survived by a son, Jerry Fox of Canoga Park; a daughter, Gloria Fox of Van Nuys; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Sinai Mortuary, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, in Los Angeles.
