Senor Speedy Wins Highweight
Senor Speedy closed strongly on the rail to gain the lead in deep stretch and then drew away with 131 pounds and jockey Jorge Chavez to score a 2 1/2-length victory in Belmont Park’s $118,200 Grade II Fall Highweight Handicap for horses three and up.
Sunshine Jimmy, who raced coupled in the wagering with For Really, was runner-up in the eight horse field, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Diablo.
Senor Speedy, who narrowly missed overtaking Housebuster in Saratoga’s Forego Handicap in his previous start Aug. 25, earned $70,920 for his first victory in 11 races this year. He finished in 1:08:3 and returned $10.20, $4.80 and $2.80.
The Sunshine Jimmy entry paid $2.80 and $2.40 and Diablo was $2.80.
