A 21-year-old Oak Park man faces a homicide charge in the slaying of a 16-year-old boy who died Sunday of a stab wound inflicted two days earlier, authorities said.

Philip Holsborg, who was being held in Ventura County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, will be rearrested for the murder of Craig D. Hastings, an Oak Park teen-ager killed by a stab wound in the groin, according to sheriff’s deputies and Deputy County Coroner Jim Wingate.

Holsborg is accused of beating Craig with a baseball bat and then stabbing him during an altercation at a poolside party at a condominium complex on North Oak Hills Drive near Avenue Soledad.

The fight broke out at 11:20 p.m. Friday after a bottle-throwing incident, authorities said.

After his arrest early Saturday, authorities discovered that Holsborg was wanted on charges of illegally possessing and brandishing a weapon, possession of marijuana and trespassing.

Wingate said Craig, who was entering his junior year at Oak View High School in Agoura, did not recover from emergency surgery performed Saturday at Westlake Hospital.

About 150 people attended a memorial service for Craig on Sunday evening at Chaparral Park in Oak Park, said Andrea Ziegler, a friend of the victim’s family.

She said about 50 of Craig’s friends had been at the hospital around the clock “hoping for good news” before his death early Sunday afternoon.

Ziegler said Oak View Principal Larry Miesel has agreed to make counselors available for bereaved students after funeral services planned for Tuesday.
