District Could Help Cool Off Classrooms

As a parent of children attending L. A. schools in the San Fernando Valley, I am aware of the many difficulties faced by the school district because of the lack of funds. One of my many concerns is the elevated summer classroom temperatures because it directly affects the health, well-being and learning capability of our children.

The school district should shut off all air conditioning in the administrative offices (all regional and main district offices) since the human density per square foot in these buildings is much less than in any of the schools.

The money saved could be deposited into a special air-conditioning fund used solely by schools to repair broken air conditioning and to install less-costly window air units.

I am not asking district employees who work in these air-conditioned offices to make any greater sacrifice than what is asked of thousands of our children who this year must sit in more crowded classrooms and tolerate the heat.
