Rescuers have given up hope of finding 24 people missing from a ship that sank off Papua New Guinea’s north coast, authorities said Sunday.

The 59-foot coastal trader MV Simbang capsized and sank after being struck by a wave on Wednesday.

The National Disaster and Emergency Service said that at least nine people drowned.
