Cities
I was struck by two articles in the Sept. 2 edition of The Times. The first article dealt with Leningrad (front page). The city “teems with pollution, hunger, and hopelessness.” The second article was about U.S. urban life. The head of the U.S. mayors conference says, “U.S. cities are ‘fast becoming endangered institutions’ because of homelessness, drugs, crime and unemployment.”
The Soviets are turning to capitalism for their salvation. What do we turn to?
