COUNTYWIDE : Sheriff Seeks Funds for Forensics Trip
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department will ask the Board of Supervisors today to spend more than $1,800 for one crime-lab specialist to attend a five-day meeting in Canada.
Air fare, lodging, vehicle rental, meals and other fees during the trip to Montreal will ring up the tab, which is being requested so that a member of the department’s forensics team can learn new techniques in the field.
The department is asking for the money despite a 1.9% cut in the county’s law enforcement budget this year.
A written request from the sheriff’s office said the seminar, to be held Sept. 23-27, would offer “scientific papers and workshops on state-of-the-art developments” in toxicology and DNA analysis.
