Compaq to Introduce New Line of PCs: Compaq Computer will introduce a new line of “modular” personal computers next week that can be easily upgraded by plugging in new components, analysts said. Although other PC vendors offer machines that allow the owner to upgrade by plugging in a faster central processor, the new Compaq systems will allow buyers to replace not only the CPU, but also the memory, the graphics system and other components, said Stella Kelly of the market research firm Infocorp. The new machines are expected to be priced aggressively. They will include models using various versions of Intel’s 386 and 486 microprocessors.
