From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Twelve cases of pneumonia have occurred since April at a Social Security building, and health officials plan to test the water and air at the five-story structure. One of those stricken was a janitor who died of a heart attack while being treated for pneumonia, said Leslie Walker, spokeswoman for the Social Security Administration. Three people are still in the hospital, she said. The building houses 1,200 workers. “It’s really too early to speculate if this is all related,” said Francie Wise, Contra Costa County’s director of communicable disease.
