Winners in Venice: The top prize at the Venice Film Festival has gone to “Urga,” a Soviet film by Nikita Michalkov about a shepherd’s search for contraceptives to obey China’s birth control law. The best acting awards went to American actor River Phoenix (for “My Own Private Idaho”) and British actress Tilda Swinton (for “Edward II”). American director Terry Gilliam’s “The Fisher King” shared the Silver Lion prize with French and Chinese films.
