The Ventura Unified Education Assn. has endorsed two of the 16 candidates seeking election to the school board in November.

Retired Buena High School teacher Diane Harriman, 62, and mortuary manager Jim Wells, 49, received the endorsements, based on a poll of the association’s members, union officials said.

An association committee interviewed 13 of the candidates and recommended Harriman and Wells.

Earlier this month, union representatives took the recommendations to teachers in the 660-member association, who voted overwhelmingly to approve the endorsements, union officials said.

The Ventura Classified Employees Assn., representing about 640 district employees including secretaries and bus drivers, also endorsed Harriman, Wells and one other candidate, Cliff Rodrigues, an administrator in the county superintendent of schools office.

Two seats are available on the five-member board in the Nov. 5 election.

Veteran board members Barbara Myers and Vincent Ruiz are not seeking reelection.
