Police Review Panel Draws Little Support
A proposal that the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale create a citizens panel to review cases of alleged brutality or harassment by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in the Antelope Valley appears to be drawing little political support in either city.
Lancaster Mayor Henry Hearns said his plan would help assure citizens that such cases get an impartial review.
But his proposal has drawn at best lukewarm responses and no public endorsements from other council members in the two Antelope Valley cities.
Capt. Gary Vance, the commander of the Antelope Valley sheriff’s station, said he and the department likely would oppose such a panel as unnecessary.
