Hearings on Clarence Thomas

Like Clarence Thomas, I grew up in poverty, just in a different location--a farm in Nebraska. We had no indoor plumbing, and carried our water in a bucket from a well. I went barefoot all summer, and walked barefoot down unpaved country roads to a one-room country school until winter came. I grew up and went to college, supported myself with part-time jobs and went on to a successful career. I am also a good person.

But this history alone does not make me a good candidate for the Supreme Court of the United States.
