Boy, 9, Dies After Being Hit by Car on Way to School
SANTA ANA — A 9-year-old boy on his way to school was struck and killed by a car while crossing an intersection Wednesday morning, police said.
Morgan Nguyen of Santa Ana was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center where he died a short time later, said Santa Ana police spokeswoman Maureen Haacker.
Morgan was heading for Monroe Elementary School in Fountain Valley, Haacker said. At 8 a.m., he was waiting to cross the street at 4900 W. Edinger Ave. and Corta Drive, she said.
Haacker said the boy had a bicycle but she does not know if he was riding or walking his bike out onto the street.
He “apparently seemed to be waiting for a break in traffic but moved out into oncoming traffic” and was hit by a Nissan 200SX, Haacker said.
The 21-year-old driver, whose name was not released, was driving “the speed limit” and was not cited, Haacker said, adding: “She had no chance to stop.” An investigation is continuing.
