VENTURA : Veterans’ Vigil to Honor POWs, MIAs
Vietnam Veterans of Ventura County will hold a candlelight vigil tonight in recognition of national POW/MIA Day.
The vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. outside the County Government Center in Ventura. Veterans’ spokesman Gary Parker said the vigil is part of an annual event to commemorate members of the armed services who did not return from Vietnam.
Parker said 228 veterans from California are still considered missing in action or prisoners of war. Of those veterans, five are from Ventura County, he said.
During the vigil at the intersection of Telephone Road and Victoria Avenue, family members and friends will light candles and read the names of all who are missing.
