Dave O’Brien has been named acting athletic director at Cal State Long Beach, replacing Corey Johnson, who resigned to become the athletic director at Colorado State.
O’Brien, 35, has been the school’s assistant vice president for administration and finance since 1989. A lawyer, he also heads a committee that is studying whether to eliminate or severely downgrade the 49er football program.
The search for a permanent replacement will not begin until at least January, university President Curtis McCray said.
