The Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters golf tournament, has rehired an employee fired earlier this year for his role in selling a gun the club’s former chairman used to kill himself.

Charles Young, the club’s chief of security from 1974 until his dismissal, confirmed that he was reinstated to his former job more than a month ago. Frank Christian, who served as a club photographer for more than 23 years, also was fired. He has not worked for the club since February, according to his brother, Paul Christian.

Young and Christian were fired after club officials found they sold a gun with which Clifford Roberts committed suicide on club grounds in 1977. Roberts was chairman of the club since 1932.

Jim Armstrong, general manager of the club in Augusta, Ga., said the club will “have no comment” on the matter.
