Hallmark Card Unit Buys Cable Firm: Hallmark Cards Inc.’s Crown Media unit is acquiring a controlling interest in a Missouri-based cable company, putting the greeting card giant among the top 20 cable operators. The Wall Street Journal reported that the transaction for the interest in Cencom Cable Associates Inc. is estimated to be worth $1 billion. A spokesman for Dallas-based Crown Media, Bob Druten, said there was a deal but he could not provide details immediately. The newest cable deal gives the privately held company a total of 700,000 subscribers. Earlier, Hallmark bought Jones Intercable Inc.
