PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : 49ers’ Seifert No Fan of 4-3 Defense
George Seifert, coach of the San Francisco 49ers, isn’t looking forward to playing against the Rams’ new 4-3 defense Sunday at Candlestick Park.
“I think it’s very formidable, and I think it’s very creative,” Seifert said. “We’ve played against that style in the past and have had our hands full.”
With starter Jackie Slater sidelined because of a sore shoulder and his replacement, Robert Jenkins, on the injured reserve list because of a hyper-extended toe, last year’s starting right guard, Duval Love, will start at right tackle Sunday.
Love last played a full game at right tackle in last season’s opener, when Slater was sidelined because of a dislocated toe.
“He’s only played it a couple times,” Ram Coach John Robinson said of Love at right tackle. “(But) it’s not putting you or me out there. He’s an OK pass blocker. He’ll be all right.”
