Opera TV Tally Slow in Coming
NEW YORK — Producers of the Metropolitan Opera TV gala said Tuesday that it was too early to tell how many people saw the first live pay-per-view opera telecast.
They also said the gala will be rebroadcast Sept. 29 and Oct. 6.
“We had hoped to have some information on Tuesday, but have to rely on individual cable systems to report back to us, and it’s a slow process,” said Sharon Portin, vice president in charge of affiliate sales for the event.
Early figures indicated that the gala “did quite well in Manhattan” and “some parts of Texas so far were doing better than some parts of California.”
Producers had hoped to reach at least 40,000 homes.
