Anna L. Kahn; Retired Dental Hygienist

Anna L. Kahn, a retired dental hygienist and longtime San Fernando Valley resident who helped develop dental education programs for children, has died in a hospital in Amityville, N.Y. She was 94.

A former resident of Woodland Hills, Mrs. Kahn died Sept. 16 of complications of old age, said her daughter, Susan Kahn Greenfield of Woodland Hills.

Born in Goradok, Russia, Mrs. Kahn immigrated to the United States by boat in 1905, graduated from Columbia University in 1922 and worked as a dental hygienist in the New York public schools. Mrs. Kahn was instrumental in developing programs to teach New York schoolchildren about dental care. She came to California in 1959, working at a San Fernando clinic and for various dentists in the San Fernando Valley. She retired at age 86 and moved back to New York in 1989.

Mrs. Kahn was a member of the National Dental Hygienists’ Assn., was active with the San Fernando Valley Dental Hygienists’ Society and had participated in several children’s dental fairs held at Topanga Plaza.

In addition to her daughter, Susan, Mrs. Kahn is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dr. Irving J. Kahn of Jericho, N.Y.; son Dr. Arthur M. Kahn of Woodbury, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial were in Long Island, N.Y. Donations can be made in Mrs. Kahn’s name to any charity benefiting children.
