San Diego
A man who allegedly fired shots into a house in retaliation for a bad drug deal pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder charges in the death of a 13-year-old girl who was struck in the head.
Bail was set at $1 million for Michael Hansen, 24, of San Diego, who is charged with murdering Diane Rosalez, who died Thursday. Diane was talking on the telephone at the time of the 7:40 p.m. drive-by shooting in the 5600 block of Albemarle Street in Paradise Hills.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Elizabeth Porterfield said in court that the shooting occurred “in retaliation for a drug deal gone sour.”
Bail review is scheduled for Friday, and a preliminary hearing will be Nov. 15. Hansen was arrested Friday morning at a motel in San Ysidro.
Porterfield couldn’t be reached for comment, but police said after the shooting that no one in the girl’s household was connected to a drug transaction. The gunman fired 10 shots into the apartment.
Rosalez was an eighth-grade student at Granger Junior High School.
