Pop Album Chart : GNR Takes Hold of the Top Two Spots
Guns N’ Roses’ albums, “Use Your Illusion I and II,” entered the Billboard magazine pop chart in the top two spots and should rule for a while. One loser is country singer Garth Brooks, whose “Ropin’ the Wind” slipped to No. 3 only because its excellent sales figures were far below the phenomenal Guns N’ Roses’ numbers. Pop-soul singer Mariah Carey entered at No. 4 and might have entered at No. 1 without the double-barrelled competition. Fans obviously haven’t lost interest in rocker Ozzy Osbourne, whose new album, “No More Tears,” debuted at No. 7. The new No. 1 pop single is “Good Vibrations,” by Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch.
* The soundtrack album from “The Commitments” movie--about the Irish bar band that sings classic soul music tunes--is a surprise hit, zooming into the Top 10 in just one month, jumping from No. 21 to No. 8.
