From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Ford Announces Two Recalls: Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 400,000 1987-model Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable cars because of a potential front-brake problem. It also recalled 3,047 1988-model school buses built on Ford B-Series chassis because of potential steering-gear problems. In the Taurus-Sable recall, brake rotors could be damaged by extensive use of calcium or sodium chloride road salts in winter, the company said. In the bus recall, Ford said steering could become difficult and a driver may feel a binding when turning the steering wheel.
