Two People Killed After Chase by Border Patrol on Interstate 5
Two people were killed Friday night after a U.S. Border Patrol chase on Interstate 5 in north San Diego County, the California Highway Patrol said.
A CHP dispatcher said a collision occurred in the northbound lanes about 9:20 p.m., killing one person. After the crash, the dispatcher said, a man being chased by the agents left his vehicle and was killed when he jumped from a bridge.
After the incident, all lanes but one of the northbound freeway were closed, the dispatcher said. Southbound traffic was not impeded.
In 1990, at least 12 people were killed on the I-5 in Border Patrol chases. Critics of the Border Patrol checkpoint near San Onofre say it has contributed to accidents and the deaths of illegal aliens who have tried to elude authorities.
