Weekend Box Office : ‘Fisher King’ Reels In Moviegoers

“The Fisher King,” starring Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams, led the three major movies opening over the weekend. With good reviews, plus solid per-screen grosses, the numbers bode well for a long run. But business was so-so for Paramount Pictures’ new gridiron comedy “Necessary Roughness,” while Goldie Hawn’s “Deceived” opened to good per-screen numbers. News was morbid for “Freddy’s Dead”: after two weeks in first place, grosses dropped 50%.

* The Southern-set comedy-drama “Rambling Rose,” with Laura Dern and Robert Duvall, expanded its play dates and looks to have a rosy future, based on solid per-screen numbers.
