LAGUNA NIGUEL : Teen Fest to Promote Drug-Free Activities
Thousands of South County youths are expected to attend the area’s first festival celebrating teen-agers Saturday.
At pep rallies and assemblies in South County schools over the past few months, word has been spread about Teen Expofest ‘91, festival organizers said.
The purpose of the expo is “to promote drug-free activities for teens,” said Sylvia Friedrichsen, a Laguna Niguel recreation coordinator. “There’s not a lot for teens to do around here. We want to give them the opportunity to have some fun.”
Sponsored by three cities and various county agencies, the festival will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Crown Valley Community Park, 29751 Crown Valley Parkway.
Organizers asked teen-agers what kind of entertainment they preferred. Drawing from their responses, the festival will feature local bands, cheerleaders from the Los Angeles Lakers and area high schools, skateboard and in-line skating exhibitions, and a “Make Your Own Video” amateur music video production booth.
Other activities will include juggling lessons, face painting, remote-control airplane demonstrations and fortunetelling. There will also be food and game booths, as well as informational booths set up by Orange County Drug Abuse Services, the Volunteer Center of Orange County, youth support groups and other organizations.
Celebrity guests at the event will include television personalities Kellie Williams of “Family Matters” and Danny Pintauro of “Who’s the Boss?”
The event is being sponsored by the cities of Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo and San Clemente. Other agencies participating include the Orange County parks department, the Saddleback Valley Unified School District and the Capistrano Parks and Recreation District.
