For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* Apply chelated iron or FST to azaleas, citrus and gardenias to keep leaves green.

* Lower mowing height of lawnmower to 1 1/2 inches for the winter.

* Dig and store begonia and dahlia tubers if foliage has turned yellow.

* Choose trees for colorful fall foliage. Stop by your favorite nursery or garden center to see their selections. Now’s the time for the best choices.

* When temperatures cool the snails and slugs will be back. Get bait.
