SANTA PAULA : Council Fills Post on Planning Panel
The Santa Paula City Council has appointed Gabriella (Gabie) Araiza Reeves to serve on the Planning Commission for a two-year term, officials said Tuesday.
Reeves was selected from a field of 12 applicants and will fill the seat vacated in July by Gordon Esterbrook, who served for 11 years.
Reeves, 58, co-owns a restaurant and is a former president of the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce. She also serves on the board of directors at the Santa Paula Housing Authority.
Reeves expressed joy and relief at the announcement of her selection, saying the large number of well-qualified candidates had caused her to wonder if she would be picked. She said succeeding Esterbrook leaves her with “some large shoes to fill.”
The Planning Commission is a seven-member panel of residents that advises the City Council on land-use issues.
Reeves was nominated by Mayor John Melton.
