German Terrorist Given 10-Year Sentence
STUTTGART, Germany — Silke Maier-Witt, 41, a former member of the Red Army Faction terrorist gang, was convicted Tuesday of helping kill a prominent industrialist in 1977 and of participating in a 1979 attack on Alexander M. Haig Jr. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The main charge against Maier-Witt was involvement in the kidnaping and murder of Hans-Martin Schleyer, president of the German Employers Assn., in the fall of 1977.
She was also accused of participating in a 1979 bomb attack in Belgium against Haig when he served as NATO’s supreme allied commander.
