Computer Industry Activity Steady: A barometer of future computer industry activity remained unchanged in September, according to the Semiconductor Industry Assn. The book-to-bill ratio of 0.94 means that for every $100 worth of products shipped (billed), manufacturers received $94 worth of new orders (bookings). The ratio is a harbinger of future computer activity because semiconductors are a key component of computers.
