La Verne : Water Fines Rescinded
Citing the improved regional water situation and the city’s successful conservation program, the City Council voted Monday to stop imposing fines for excess water use, though the council will reconsider the fines in December or January. Brian Bowcock, director of public works, said the city has met its conservation goal by reducing water use an average of more than 20% since January, compared with the same period last year.
Councilman Craig H. Walters objected to the elimination of fines, saying it is “like putting up a sign saying, ‘You can’t drive faster than 45 miles per hour, but we won’t penalize you if you do.’ ”
