Claremont : Trash Collection Plan

The City Council agreed Tuesday to devise an experimental garbage collection program that will allow about 10% of the residents to continue to be served by a private contractor.

The council’s original plan was to incorporate the 745 residents in recently annexed areas who are currently served by Rancho Disposal of Fontana into the city’s trash pick-up system. But many residents protested that plan, saying they would rather continue service with Rancho Disposal even if it means higher collection rates. In response, council members agreed to work out the hybrid garbage collection program.

City staff will negotiate a franchise agreement with Rancho Disposal, which will include provisions for recycling, then bring the contract back to the council for another public hearing.
