SAN CLEMENTE : Rules Stiffened for Temporary Banners
Business owners or managers seeking permits for temporary banners will have to meet a new set of more stringent requirements to advertise new hours, specials and available space under a new ordinance.
The city has amended an ordinance which sets a size limit of 100 square feet on temporary banners, according to Bob Goldin, the city’s principal planner. All signs are now limited to 64 square feet and must be removed after 30 days.
In addition, the banners’ colors must comply with the city’s sign ordinance and design guidelines.
Goldin said the size and time limits were designed to prevent business owners from continuously renewing permits for the temporary banners.
“We limited it . . . because people have utilized temporary banners instead of permanent signs,” Goldin said.
