FILLMORE : Marriage Fees, Illegal Parking Cost More
Fillmore citizens will pay $15 more for marriage licenses, and citizens who park illegally will pay $25 instead of $12, the City Council decided Tuesday.
City Finance Director Allan Coates told the council that the new fees were necessary to cover processing costs and that the amounts were on a par with charges levied by other cities in Ventura County. The new fees will be effective immediately.
Marriage licenses will cost $46; state and county fees remain $26, but Fillmore’s processing charge will rise from $5 to $20.
The increase in fines for illegal parking is caused partly by state legislation requiring that $5 from each fine be given to state and county agencies, Coates said.
Coates said the previous charges allowed the city to retain only $7 per violation. With the increase, Fillmore will keep $20 from each parking ticket. Coates estimated the potential revenue at $4,200, more than twice what the city would collect without raising the fine.
